The largest festival in the Baltic countries - music and art festival Positivus, bestows a delicious mix of musical genres and an inimitable atmosphere. Music stars like Travis, Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Fatboy Slim, Moby, Sinead O'Connor have performed in Positivus festival in previous years. Latvian annual theatre award ceremony Spelmanu nakts (Performer’s night)
Each year on November 23rd Latvian Theatre Association organizes the ceremony to honour achievements in performing arts - Spelmanu nakts. In 2007 Nordea Bank became the general sponsor of this event.
Spelmanu nakts awards are presented each year to the best Latvian performances, performers and directors. Each year there is also a special award. In 2007 it was presented to Alvis Hermanis and New Riga Theatre for their artistic investment in international dramatic scene. Since 2008 Nordea organises audience voting. In 2008 the best play in the audience vote was the play Hamlet made by Valmiera Drama theater and directed by Olgert Kroders. In its turn, in 2009 the best actor in audience opinion was Vilis Dadudzins (2987 votes), the best actress – Dita Lurina (1711 votes), and the best play was Grandpa by The New Riga Theater and directed by Alvis Hermanis (2336 votes).
