International Nordea Riga marathon

As one of its sponsorship priorities, Nordea has selected sports as a key element for building a healthy lifestyle society.
In 2007, Nordea, in cooperation with Nords Porter Novelli agency and Riga City Council started a long-term cooperation project of organising and supporting Nordea Riga marathon.
From year to year, the head count of Nordea Riga marathon keeps growing, gathering more and more participants from Latvia and abroad. Records are being toppled – regarding the time score as well as the number of runners. There were more than 11 000 roadrunners from 45 countries of the world in 2010. Nordea Riga marathon welcomes all run-fans, the distances available are marathon, half-marathon, mini marathon and 10 km distances, as well as the “solidarity kilometre” distance for people with special needs. Nordea Riga marathon has gained popularity with corporations as well, and we see an increasing number of sneakered corporate teams on the start line each year.

International Valmiera marathon

Nordea bank continues the successful cooperation with the organizing team of Valmiera marathon, which was started in 2007.
Valmiera marathon gains in numbers from year to year, the choice for selection is 5 distances – marathon, half-marathon, satellite-run (5.7 km), kids’ run, Nordic Walking track. Nordea staff does not stand aside, taking an active part instead in both Nordea Riga marathon and Valmiera marathon, quite often getting the honours for the largest corporate team.

VEF Rīga basketball club

In March 2011, Nordea became a sponsor to VEF Rīga – the leading basketball club of Latvia. Signing of the sponsorship agreement with VEF Rīga basketball club is a purpose investment into the bank’s brand awareness and reputation building.
This club has made a name for itself, not merely by good sporting record. The management reins of the club are also in hands of a professional team, which is of particular importance to the sponsor when weighing up its marketing investments and the return on them.
VEF Rīga is the leading basketball club of Latvia – the only delegate of Latvia in 2010/11 season to the second prestigious European tournament – European cup (former ULEB cup) and the competition of the best Eastern-European clubs – VTB United league, as well as the only representative of the capital city to Elite group of the Baltic Basketball league (BBL).
