The "Shadow Day” Strengthens Confidence in Further Occupational Choice

Within the framework of the „Shadow Day” event today the Nordea House was visited by secondary school pupils who watched the daily work of bank’s employees. In total 13 pupils were „shadowing” different departments of the bank, becoming familiar with the daily work of private bankers, call centre, loan administration, resource department and public relations specialists.

Head of Human Resources Viktorija Veisa: „In truth we started our own „Shadows days” among the employees of Nordea already three years ago. One week each year our employees are given the possibility "to shadow" a colleague from another department. For a team of 500 employees it is an opportunity to develop the understanding of a united team. This is the first year we participate in the „Shadow day" event to make young people more familiar with the daily work of banks and give an idea about the potential occupation. Although predominant is the opinion that banks employ financial experts only, around 157 different professions are represented in Nordea. I consider that the „Shadow day” event is a valuable experience both for the pupils who find out more about their potential professions and also for the employees of the bank, obtaining the valuable detached view, hardly noticed in the routine of everyday work.”

At the end of the day the „shadows” shared their impressions:

The „shadow” of the Public Relations Department Juliana Maniševa: „I have come to realize the importance of my current activities that will help further for my occupational choice. Now I am sure that I want to become a public relations specialist because the activities I observed today seem very interesting." Inna Iļjina: „I was impressed by the Nordea building where everything is well-thought-over and such a considerable number of specialists work as a single team. Having seen the daily work of public relations specialists I have understood the traits of character and proficiency required for the profession."

The „shadow” of the Resource Department Valters Andersons: „Direct transactions with foreign banks stirred my interest most. And, I also changed my opinion about employees of banks – they were more responsive than I expected. I was well informed about the nature of the profession – understood everything and if would have such opportunity, in the future I could imagine myself working in a resource department.” Reinis Tenis: „It was very interesting to learn about transactions with clients and foreign banks! I can think of choosing this profession, if I had the possibility!"

The „shadow” of the Loan Administration Department” Arturs Jaunzems: „It was interesting to hear the comments of the employees themselves and try out all stages of the loan formation process. I also changed my opinion about bank’s employees – I understood that young and cheerful people work there. It is an interesting occupation and, if I had the possibility, I think I would choose loan administration as my further profession. Sindija Kundziņa: „It was an amazing experience to see the real daily work of banks. The employees were very responsive, although work in the bank turned out to be harder that I thought. The team is very friendly – if I would work there, I would arrive to my place of work with pleasure!"
