Nordea Riga Marathon 2010 Total Prize Fund 19 000 EUR

The total purse for marathon and half-marathon distances of the Nordea Riga Marathon 2010 is EUR 19 000. In addition to money prizes participants in all distances will receive finisher’s medals and other surprises prepared by the sponsors.

Similarly as in previous years the general sponsor of the event - Nordea has though of a special price for Latvia’s best runners. The best male and female marathon runners of Latvia will receive 2 000 EUR each, whereas the fastest runners in the half-marathon distance will share another 1000 EUR.

Nordea hopes that "Latvia’s runners award” will encourage participation of Latvia’s best long distance runners in the marathon to be held on 23 May this year, by also indirectly popularizing running in Latvia.

Though, since the Nordea Riga Marathon is ranked among world class marathons, the competition for a place on the pedestal has become especially challenging. Therefore, also this year Nordea as the general sponsor of the event will take due care of Latvia's best runners, by awarding special prices that will also serve as a gratitude for Latvia's fastest runners for motivating others. Having taken a look at the list of participants, it is obvious that the number of participants is increasing each year and, what is especially pleasing - many of those who started with the mini marathon have now registered for the half marathon and even marathon distance - what means - we are on the right way!"

There are almost two months to go till the marathon, however almost 3 400 applicants have already registered. The majority of the runners are from Latvia – 2350, though the representation of runners from other countries is also constantly increasing - runners from 31 countries have registered for the run. The largest group of runners will arrive to Riga from Finland - 171, whereas the largest marathon team also this year will be the team of Nordea - 224 participants.

Distances

In 2010 the participants of the Nordea Riga Marathon can register for 4 distances: 42km, 21km, 5km and marathon relay (4 participants running 42km). This will be already the 20th Nordea Riga Marathon.

About Nordea Riga Marathon

Marathon in Riga is organized already since 1991. As from 2007 the marathon is known with the name Nordea Riga Marathon. It is the most rapidly growing marathon in the Northern Europe and in 2009 there were almost 8 600 participants from 35 countries. Since 2007 the marathon is organized by the agency Nords Event Communications in collaboration with the Riga city council.
