TEDx Riga Conference

This year, with Nordea support and for the first time in Latvia, there was arranged one of the most widely recognized intellectually inspiring events – TEDx Riga.

Its slogan was "The art of doing", and during its four sessions 23 smartest and brightest persons of Latvia presented their inspirational reports on science, culture, creativity and other subjects supported by performances.

The aim of the TEDx Riga conference is to show Latvia as a country, which is rich with talented people, emphasizing their intelligence and creativity.

Nordea supports TEDx to promote dialogue between talented people and society. We believe that events of such kind help to improve each individual's quality of life and increase the desire to succeed in their personal lives.

TED (Technology entertainment Design) is a global non-profit organization established in 1984 to disseminate “ideas worth spreading". It brings people from different fields together, to change the world with their ideas and discoveries and help the society, organizations and talented people to promote dialogue through TED knowledge and practical experience built-up over many years.

The Friendly Appeal School Rating

Nordea works towards improvement of the public educational level by supporting schoolchildren and students of Latvia. Since 2009, Nordea supports the challenge Friendly Appeal Award, established by the Friendly Appeal Foundation, awarded for academic accomplishments of schoolchildren and schools during the previous study year.

The Friendly Invitation is a tradition established in 1935 by Karlis Ulmanis, the former president of the Republic of Latvia – a tradition with the original idea to appeal to everyone to donate books to schools.  At that time this friendly call gained huge popularity and the idea was brought back to life in 1994, when the Friendly Appeal Foundation was founded (Draudzīgā aicinājuma fonds), which established the Friendly Appeal Award in 1997. This award was granted to Latvian schools praising their performance during study year. The end of 2010 marked a decade since awarding the challenge award of Friendly Appeal.

In 2011, Nordea along with the Friendly Appeal Foundation and supporters – the ad and communications agency Airport, revives the Friendly Appeal movement by launching a new programme in support of schools – School SOS, and introducing a yet unseen, objective and calculation-based rating of Latvian schools.

Sales GURU

The Sales GURU annual competition, organized by the web-based staff selection and recruitment company CV-Online Latvia, has been on for the seventh time already in Latvia, with Nordea as the prime sponsor and supporter of this competition since 2009.

The Sales GURU annual competition welcomes sales professionals (customer managers, trade reps, etc.), sales unit leaders, and anyone else, willing to become a successful trader and test one’s skills and knowledge, and above that – to display that inner talent in selling ideas, goods and services.

Riga Business School

Nordea and Riga Business School (RBS) have been closely linked for many years already. That link was forged by Nordea employees – RBS alumni or those still studying there. Nordea has signed a cooperation agreement with Riga Business School, thus becoming the Gold Member of RBS Alumni Association and corporate cooperation partner of the college.

The agreement addresses cooperation issues in study lending as well as various common initiatives in implementing applicable education of quality and know-how workshop projects with broad involvement of representatives of the Bank.
