It is important for Nordea that every customer feels that their finances are secure when making payments both in person or remotely. Find out more here.

Personal data

  • Do not answer  calls, text messages or e-mails “sent from Nordea” that request  your password and other identification data. Nordea never calls, sends e-mails, or makes windows in the Netbank that request the entry of personal information. Examples of personal information: payment card number, card expiry date, PIN code, Netbank user code, password.
  • Specify your personal data or account information solely on  websites whose security  (SSL or HTTPS connection) you trust and which you have visited at your own initiative.
  • Do not store personal information without proper encoding on external storage devices, laptops, mobile phones or other devices, since they are easy to lose and can be stolen, putting your data in the hands of a third party.
  • Under no circumstances should you provide the following data by e-mail or telephone:
  • Netbank password;
  • complete code card or calculator numbers;
  • card number;
  • card expiry date;
  • PIN code;
  • as well as the CVV2 code or a three-digit code located on the back of the card in the white field, next to the signature.

If you have provided this information or you suspect that the security of your personal information (payment card data, Netbank code card or password) has been compromised — contact Nordea immediately and block access to your accounts.

The Netbank

  • The address of a secure website for payments starts with https://, not http://.
  • Do not keep Netbank connection data — user code or login name and password — together with the card.
  • If you know or suspect that your Netbank password has been acquired by someone else — change it immediately.
  • Verify your account balance and information regarding transactions with the bank regularly. In case of suspicions, always contact Nordea immediately.
  • Do not set overly high payment limits in the Netbank (daily and monthly limit). Set your transaction limits according to your payment habits.
  • Do not disclose Netbank connection data (user code, password) and other identification or financial information to unauthorized persons.
  • If doubts arise regarding any transaction, letter, e-mail or call, always contact Nordea and assure yourself of its genuineness. Remember — Nordea will never call, send e-mails or ask for details required for the use of electronic services.
  • Always log out from the Netbank by clicking the “Exit” button and closing the browser. Log out even if you step away from the computer briefly.
  • Use the Netbank in public places (Internet cafés, libraries, airports, hotels, etc.) as rarely as possible. If you must use the Netbank in a public location, make sure that you have logged out from your Netbank and closed the browser after using the Netbank.

Shopping on the Internet

  • It is recommended that you shop on websites that support the 3D Secure system created by international card companies VISA and MasterCard.
  • Shop with sellers you know or research sellers online to confirm they are respectable and trustworthy.
  • Save information regarding all your transactions, including the seller's website address. Many Internet stores send their customers e-mails containing a shopping data summary — save or print out these letters.
  • Before making a purchase, read the Delivery and Refund Conditions, which must be available on the seller's website. Find out whether the product can be refunded or a credit note issued if a defect in the product is discovered.
  • Assess the retailer's website — it must provide information regarding delivery preparation activities and costs, the currency in which payments are accepted, and applicable taxes.
  • Find the seller's company name and address, contact phone or e-mail address and save it in case any questions arise.
  • We recommend using a separate payment card for shopping on the Internet, rather than, for instance, your salary account card. When making a purchase, transfer the required amount from your account to the special account of an Internet shopping card.

Card security

  • Do not keep passwords and PIN codes in a place that is accessible or visible to others.
  • Do not keep code cards, PIN codes and passwords in one place or together with payment cards.
  • Do not write PIN codes and passwords down unless the information is properly encoded.
  • Immediately notify Nordea of  lost or stolen payment cards or cards whose information has been disclosed to a third party.
  • When paying for your purchase, make sure the payment card is always in your sight. Ask the seller to bring the payment card reader or accompany the seller to the point of payment.
  • When entering the PIN code of the payment card, make sure that people around you do not see the PIN code entered.
  • Do not use the same PIN code for all your payment cards.

Security passwords

  • Passwords must consist of 8 characters.
  • Use small letters, capital letters and digits, as well as other characters (if permitted by your computer system and the Netbank) in your password.
  • It is recommended that digits and special characters be placed in the middle of a password (rather than at the beginning or the end).
  • Use passwords that are difficult  for others to guess — information known only to you accompanied by special characters.
  • We do not recommend using your or your children's names, surname, a pet's name, date of birth, a license plate number or words that can be found in dictionaries, etc. as passwords.
  • When choosing a complicated password, make sure it can be easily remembered, so that there is no need to write it down where it may be accessible to others.
  • Do not trust your password to others (including family members).
  • Do not save your Netbank password in the Internet browser.
  • Do not keep your Netbank password together with the code card.
  • Do not use the same password for several websites.
  • If you suspect that someone has acquired your password, change it immediately.
  • It is recommended that passwords be changed once every 3 months or at least once a year.

ATM security

In order to protect customers, Nordea equips its ATMs with different security devices, which hinder the copying of card data or skimming, as well as continuously (24/7) ensure the supervision of card transactions and return money to customers in case of unlawful copying and use of the card. However, in order to protect yourself and other customers from the inconveniences caused by changing a PIN code or card, each of us can contribute to improving security.

How can I recognise a skimmer?

Skimmer devices can vary much like ATMs so they are often difficult to spot for laymen. The main features to pay attention to are the:

  • Card input device (an odd protuberance, an unusual object).
  • Upper side of the screen (a micro video camera or the upper side seems to be detached from the rest of the screen).
  • PIN input keyboard (if it moves, looks like a separate piece, or has a different colour).

Recommendations on the safer use of cards

  • When entering your PIN code in an ATM, make sure that no one is watching you. For additional security, we recommend covering the number pad of the terminal with your hand.
  • Do not keep your card's PIN code in a place accessible to other persons; under no circumstances should you keep it together with the card.
  • Regularly follow transactions in your account.
  • Carefully inspect the ATM to ensure it is not equipped with an illegal data reader.
  • Several banks have equipped their ATMs with payment card data anti-reading devices or anti-skimmers — find out whether your bank's ATMs are equipped with such devices and what an anti-skimmer looks like.
  • Carefully monitor your cash safety after its withdrawal — place it in a wallet, bag or another safe place.
  • Do not inform strangers or acquaintances about the cash you have withdrawn or your plans to withdraw it.
  • When withdrawing money from an ATM, ask other customers to keep their distance to prevent them from seeing your data and PIN code.
  • Do not trust strangers who offer assistance in withdrawing money from an ATM; do not give them your card or PIN code.

Mobile application

  • Do not save your Netbank password on your phone.
  • If you suspect that someone has acquired your password, change it immediately.
  • It is recommended that passwords be changed once every 3 months or at least once a year.
  • Once you have finished, close the application. Exit the application carefully if you have been accessing it via a different mobile phone.
